WAPP visit its Technical and Financial Partners
The Secretary General of the WAPP did a working visit between February to April 2019 to IDB Jeddah, BAD Abidjan, AFD Paris, EIB Luxembourg, KfW Frankfurt, World Bank Washington, and EBID Lomé.
These visits accorded the Secretary General of WAPP the opportunity to present to these Partners, the ECOWAS Master Plan for Development of Regional Generation and Transmission of Power Infrastructure 2019-2033 and to explore with them the possibilities of cooperation for the implementation of this plan. This strategic tool should enable ECOWAS Authorities and the various actors in the region's electricity sector (public authorities, electricity companies, WAPP Secretariat, donors, etc.) have a clear, global and coherent vision for the period 2019-2033 on the development of electricity production and transmission infrastructures in the region and a rational basis for decision-making on their implementation.
This very ambitious but achievable plan provides for the implementation of 75 priority energy production and transmission projects for a financing requirement of US$36.4 billion.
The Secretary General of the WAPP took the opportunity to express his sincere gratitude for the special attention that these TFPs give to the projects of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and for the confidence they place in it, which is reflected in their support in the implementation of its priority projects.
During the exchanges, the TFPs visited reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting the WAPP for the rapid implementation of projects and to ensure the sustainability of the regional electricity market.
