Visit of ECOWAS Parliamentarians to the WAPP General Secretariat
On October 4, 2018, the WAPP General Secretariat received the visit of members of the ECOWAS Parliament as part of the implementation of its parliamentary oversight responsibilities stated in Article 7c of the Additional Act strengthening the prerogatives of the ECOWAS Parliament - " Parliament shall monitor the activities of the bodies responsible for the implementation of Community programmes and shall adopt the appropriate resolutions”.
The Secretary General of WAPP, Mr. Siengui A. KI and his team welcomed the members of Parliament and made a brief presentation of the mandate, organization and functioning, as well as the achievements of the WAPP since creation in 2006.
In addition to elaborating progress made on WAPP Priority projects, the WAPP mentioned the rural community cross-border electrification project which includes Ghana, Togo and Benin and the official launching of the regional electricity market in June 2018.
The Parliamentarians expressed satisfaction with the progress of WAPP and its contribution to the region since 2006.
