The West African Power Pool (WAPP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Abdoulaye DIA as its new Secretary General. This appointment was officially ratified during the WAPP General Assembly held on November 29, 2024, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
On Thursday, June 20, 2024, the 42nd coordination meeting of the technical and financial partners (PTF) of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) was held at the AZALAI Hotel in Cotonou, Benin. The session was officially opened by Mr. Sédiko Douka, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization at ECOWAS, in the presence of Eng. Sule Abdulaziz, Chairman of the WAPP Executive Board, and Mr. Siengui A. KI, Secretary General of WAPP. This event underscores the importance of international collaboration for energy development in West Africa.
The West African Power Pool (WAPP) and the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (ASEA) have united in a historic agreement aimed at invigorating energy integration across Africa. This strategic partnership is committed to eliminating activity redundancies and optimizing benefits for their respective members.
Recognizing the importance of safety and following its HSE Policy, the WAPP held a safety training for its staff in preparation for any emergency situation. Under the competent supervision of firefighters from the municipality of Abomey-Calavi, Benin, this training allowed WAPP employees to grasp essential basics of safety, protection, and first aid.
In a bid to reinforce collaboration and assess progress of activities, the West African Power Pool (WAPP) welcomed a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on February 1, 2024. at WAPP Secretariat in Abomey-Calavi, Benin.
From April 11th to 12th, 2024, the Water Resources Management Center (CGRE) undertook a benchmarking mission at the WAPP Secretariat, as part of an initiative aimed at enriching its operational strategy.
In a notable stride towards regional power system enhancement, the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) convened a significant cooperation meeting as part of the "Project for Strengthening Regional Power System of West African Power Pool (WAPP)".
To address the electricity deficit in West Africa, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) inaugurated, on Friday, November 17, 2023, the Information and Coordina-tion Centre (ICC) for the regional electricity market in Abomey Calavi, Benin. This initiative, or-chestrated by the West African Power Pool (WAPP), one of its specialized institutions, was real-ized with the support of the European Union.
